NEWS EDITOR (EDITORIAL)

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, research and select newsworthy stories relevant to Botswana and international audiences.
• Plan daily news coverage, bulletins, interviews and special reports.
• Write, review and approve news scripts and headlines.
• Verify facts, sources and information to ensure accuracy and balance.
• Assign and coordinate coverage with reporters and journalists.
• Supervise video news production and work with camera operators, video editors and production teams.
• Ensure timely and high-quality news content for television and digital platforms.
• Maintain editorial standards, legal compliance and responsible journalism.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or a related field.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in journalism, news editing or broadcast news production.
• Excellent English writing, editing and communication skills; Setswana proficiency is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Botswana’s current affairs, politics, economy and social issues.
• Strong news judgment, fact-checking skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple news stories.
